SPL은 1984년 독일 라인란트(Rhineland)에서 엔지니어 볼프강 노이만(Wolfgang Neumann)이 설립했다.


처음부터 실력을 인정받아 플리트우드 맥(Fleetwood Mac) 같은 유명 뮤지션들과


그래미 어워드 11회 수상에 빛나는 마스터링 엔지니어 밥 루드윅(Bob Ludwig) 등이


SPL 제품을 쓰기 시작했다.


홈페이지에 들어가면 각종 마스터링 장비와 스튜디오 장비, 플러그인


그리고 현재 이들 SPL 제품들을 쓰는 사람들의 면면에 눈이 저절로 휘둥그래진다.


프로페셔널 피델리티(Professional Fidelity) 시리즈는 이런 SPL이 본격 홈 오디오용으로 내놓은 시리즈.

프로페셔널 피델리티 시리즈에는 세분화된 제품들이 대거 포진해 있다. 음의 입구쪽부터 따져보면

SPL이 홈 오디오용 프로페셔널 피델리티 시리즈를 선보이며 가장 내세운 것은


‘VOLTAiR’(볼테르)라는120V 고전압증폭기술이다


진공관 플레이트에 거는 수준인 DC 120V 고전압을 트랜지스터 증폭회로에 가함으로써 진공관 앰프의


대표 장점 중 하나인 리니어리티를 확보하려 한 것이다.


이에 비해 트랜지스터 앰프는 80V, OP 앰프는 30~40V에서 작동한다. 2000년 처음 개발된


볼테르 기술은 현재 ‘SUPRA 120V’ 5세대 OP 앰프로 진화했다.


SPL에서 공개한 수치를 보면, 볼테르 기술이 적용된 앰프가 36V가 인가되는 일반 OP앰프보다


다이내믹 레인지와 음압이 상당히 높은 점을 확인할 수 있다.


볼테르 앰프의 음압은 최대 141.4dBu(36V OP앰프는 129.1dBu), 다이내믹 레인지는


최대 33.2dBu(36V OP앰프는 22.5dBu),


왜율(THD+N)은 -114.2dBu(36V OP앰프는 -111.7dBu)라는 월등한 수치를 보인다.






Better safe than sorry

The Performer s1200 has a protection circuit against DC voltage and against overheating. If direct current (DC) is detected, the output stage switches off automatically and the Protect LED lights up red.

To protect the s1200 against the unlikely event of overheating, a temperature sensor at the heatsinks continously monitors the temperature of the device. The TEMP LED lights up yellow when the Performer s1200 is getting too hot. 

As a result of this the output stage is switched off and the fans run on high-speed until the device has cooled down.







Freedom of choice

The Performer s1200 features a stereo pair of XLR and RCA inputs. This makes it compatible with all preamps on the market without the use of adapters. The stereo input can be selected via the Input Select switch on the rear panel.
